Self-Care: Find Your Tribe (#28Selfcarehacks)

Moments that I feel most energized, inspired, and alive are when I am having conversations and spending time with like-minded people. I love spending time with people who are interested in the same things as me, are seekers, aren’t judgmental, and who are on a spiritual path. For me, these relationships help to make me see my place in the world in a deeper way, bring me joy, and make me enthusiastic for things to come. These relationships and moments spent with “my tribe” are a major source of self-care for me.

We all want to experience a sense of community and connection -- to have a group of like-minded people, who speak the same language, who support each other, share ideas and interests. In fact, research co-authored by researchers at Wellesley College and the University of Kansas, upends the idea that “opposites attract,” instead suggesting we’re drawn to people who are like-minded. “You try to create a social world where you’re comfortable, where you succeed, where you have people you can trust and with whom you can cooperate to meet your goals,” said Chris Crandall, KU professor of psychology.

Spend time with like-minded people. Notice how you feel before, during, and after. How do these encounters affect your energy level, mood, confidence, perspective, happiness? Finding peeps that you can engage in subjects of interest can ignite joy and connection in a new way. Remember self-care is about doing things that feed your soul and bring happiness, wellness and joy. Who’s in your “tribe”?
