Self-care is a practice of attending to a wider set of criteria, including care of the mind, emotions, relationships, environment, time, and resources. This includes setting boundaries to protect your time, energy and emotional needs. Sometimes this means just saying no.
I remember when I was young my grandmothers, mother and my mother’s friends all going to get their “hair done”. They didn’t necessarily get a haircut but treated themselves to a blowout, as we say now, or getting it styled and set for the week. This usually involved curlers or and curling irons and a lot of hairspray! My mom didn’t do much for herself, but she did do this and now I know why.
